It was an honor to photograph centenarian Lillian Richards and her family for Lillian’s 100th Birthday Celebration. Lillian will officially turn 100 on April 3, 2015. The Richards are a great family and Lillian is quite an amazing lady in fine health for her age. The celebration was held at Wesley Manor in Ocean City with Mayor Jay A. Gillian on hand to present Lillian with a proclamation from the city. It was quite moving to hear each of her four children recap each of the 25 year periods of her life.
Lillian’s birthdate of April 3rd fell on the Saturday before Easter in 1915. It was also the day of the largest April snowstorm on record to hit the Philadelphia region. It began snowing around 7:30 AM and twelve hours later there were 19 inches on the ground in the city of Philadelphia. Winds gusted to 45 mph in Philadelphia with an 80 mph gust reported in Atlantic City. Atlantic City worked to shovel the snow off the boardwalk and the Easter Sunday Parade went on as scheduled. Later in September of 1915 the Philadelphia Phillies clinched their first pennant. Speaking of sports legionary Flyers goalie Bernie Parent was also born on April 3rd. Bernie was born in 1945.
